Working with members of my own family probably was one of the worst experiences in my whole life. Indeed, my parents used to run a renowned restaurant on the Riviera and they would make me work with them when I could legally do so.
I would work as a waiter, taking customers' orders, or sometimes I would clean the dishes and the glasses used in the restaurant. My father said it was an enriching experience for a young man like me as it was sure to teach me some discipline.
Whatever my father thought of it, to me, the whole experience was nightmarish. I simply did not like it. I was not comfortable with the customers, I would drop their plates on their newly-bought clothes… In short I was very clumsy and my father was disappointed. The only thing I was good at was talking to foreign customers…
Working with your family is a difficult thing as people know who you are, they know the reactions you are likely to have in a given situation. The other thing is that you cannot possibly resign… or it would be an extremely awkward situation for you and you relatives.
To me, working with relatives is a trap which should be avoided when possible.
